General Purpose Wire Rope
Most overhead cranes and wire rope slings are made from standard 6X19 and 6X36 rope classifications. The 6X19 wire ropes are good for abrasion resistance. 6X36 wire ropes are better for fatigue resistance. Although most wire ropes are made with bright or uncoated wire, they are also available in galvanized or stainless steel wire.

These ropes are typically used in single part line applications, or when operating conditions require resistance to cabling in multipart systems. Aircraft Cable
This category of wire rope consists of strands, cords and wire rope made of special-strength wire. Although originally designed primarily for use in various aircraft industry applications, there are many uses for the small diameter wire ropes in this class. The wire ropes are usually provided in galvanized or stainless steel and can be vinyl coated for added protection or wear resistance. Aircraft cable that meets aircraft grade must be specified.

Plastic Impregnated & Special Coated Wire Rope
The purpose of a plastic coating is usually to provide protection against corrosion or to assist in reducing wire rope wear and other rigging components. Plastic coatings can be applied to only the outside of the wire rope, or can be incorporated around the core. In some cases, the internal spaces of the wire rope are filled with a matrix of plastic which then extends to the outer circumference of the rope. The plastic may help reduce internal wear and may increase bending fatigue life.
